Now that summer is over, we would like to introduce you to 5 fun new sports you can try with your dog!  Get yourself and your pup out doing something new this fall with AZ Dog Sports.

 Parkour (Pawkour)

• •  A fun outdoor class that focuses on teaching your dog how to use their body to stay fit and limber safely.  You and your pup will use the outdoor park environment like rocks, trees, curbs, benches, obstacles and other recreational resources and amenities to challenge your dog’s fitness and focus. You’ll learn about determining your dog’s fitness level, and how to add a dog-version of weight lifting and balance skills to your dogs workouts. This class is best suited for dogs that have decent loose leash skills and are non-reactive to other dogs being active.

Urban Canine CGC

• •  Urban CGC (Canine Good Citizen) is a multiple session class that incorporates the requirements of CGC but is taught outdoors; in crowds, buildings, stairs and elevators. Sessions are geared at building toward your test and AKC title.  All dogs must have CGC or CGCA certificate as a prerequisite.

Treibball

• •  Treibball is a new way to play with your dog! It’s a competitive sport for dogs of all ages and sizes–it promotes better teamwork and communication between a dog and his handler. It’s great fun for any energetic dog who works well off-leash and needs a job. Playing the game uses a combination of classic obedience and herding cues. Treibball promotes the same kind of teamwork and communication as agility, but does not put any physical stress on the handler. It also builds confidence for the shy dog, and helps reactive dogs with impulse control.

Outdoor Tracking & Scentwork

• • Tracking – In this American Kennel Club sanctioned sport, dogs use their powerful noses to follow a specific human scent along a path unknown to the handler.  Through a variety of fun exercises, you and your dog will start working short straight  tracks and, over time you will progress to longer tracks with multiple turns and distractions.
  • Scentwork – The activity and sport of scentwork is designed to develop your dogs’ natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise.  It’s a great way for your dog to have fun, build confidence and burn lots of mental and physical energy.  Open to all breeds, it is a great class for dogs of any age.  They will have an opportunity to build confidence in new environments and work around obstacles without the stress of interaction with other dogs.

Outdoor Agility

• •  This activity is the same as indoor agility but utilizing wider spaces and full-size regulation equipment. You will get lots of exercise while outdoors enjoying this activity with your dog. Whether you do it just for the exercise or you compete in agility, now is the perfect time to expand your horizons as a team.
