How Day Training Can Change The Way You Look at Dog Training
Let’s talk about something not every dog guardian is aware is a training option; “Day Training”.
What is Day Training?
Day Training is when a professional trainer trains the dog and puts the various obedience and manners prompts in place. Then the handler or guardian works on them with their dog at home. For people that are busy, not confident enough, or don’t have the time required to slip into the role of dog trainer; this is the perfect solution!
Why is Day Training faster and more convenient than taking a class or a private lesson?
I use this example. Anyone can watch a you tube video or read a book to learn how to put a new faucet on their sink. It make take an hour and a half. OR they can call a plumber who does this every day, and he can accomplish the same thing in 35 minutes! You can accomplish your goal of having a well-trained dog, faster by hiring a certified dog trainer to work with your dog.
As you may know, timing and technique are very important in dog training. It can be difficult for the handler to learn techniques while trying to teach it to their dog simultaneously. Dog training has been described as “teaching people, to teach their dog.” This is true! You will learn the basic prompts from a professional, and then continue what the trainer started.
Day Training is a great way to learn basic obedience as well as level 2 or even off leash skills. Your trainer gets the dog started with great leash skill, motivating, positive methods and good timing. You as the handler then make the transition to working in unison with your dog. You are now on your way to accomplishing great things!
Learn To Train Your Dog By Example
Day Training allows the guardian to observe the trainer’s professional approach and replicate that for better learning and proofing. A good trainer will end each lesson by giving you a series of short practices as homework. The goal is to always create a great relationship with the primary person who will work the dog at home.
Another reason to Day Train is your dog stays at home for most of the training. The dog is only out with the trainer when learning. There is no need to procure the more expensive option of Board and Train, which we will discuss in a future blog. Day Training can be done as a private half hour, or in a class with other dogs.
