    Agility for Fun in Peoria w/Mary

    February 1, 2023 @ 7:00 am - 8:00 am

    Class will be held outdoors at a private residence. Address will be provided after registering.

    Pre-Requisite: Your dog must have basic obedience to enroll in this class.

    Join us for having fun with your canine companion running through tunnels, tires, over a dog walk and a teeter and so much more. If you and your four-legged team mate want to continue with agility after this class, we can direct you to our continuing classes. You may want to compete or just practice your skills, but we have classes for every level. 6 weeks recommended for beginner agility classes.

    Needed for first class: Buckle collar and harness, really great treats (you can bring chicken or leftover steak), bowl for water (water provided), your enthusiasm, your dog.

    Gentle leaders and prong collars can not be used in this class for safety reasons. Your dog may wear them coming in and out of class but not during.

    Puppy Obedience and Socialization w/ Karen

    Pre-Requisite: Your puppy must have had at least their second round of Distemper/Parvo to enroll in this class. Proof of vaccinations required.

    Obedience commands will include: sit, stay, down, loose leash walking, recall/come, go to your place and leave it command. Topics for discussion include potty and crate training, bite inhibition and impulse control. Collar grab and Veterinary desensitization.

    Obedience 2 CGC w/ Karen

    February 1, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

    Pre-Requisite: Your dog must have completed Obedience 1 to enroll in this class.

     This indoor class is for dogs 6 months and older needing additional basic obedience skills- heeling on a loose leash, sits, downs, stays, coming on recall and manners. Learn basic obedience training skills in a fun, positive environment. Class may be indoor or outdoors, generalizing behavior for different situations and working in more challenging environments. This class is for puppies who have graduated obedience 1 class and want to continue building their dog's skills. Needed for classes: flat collar or training collar/martingale, harness, treats or your dog’s favorite toy. Collar needs will be assessed for each dog at the first class.


    Enrollment in Level 2 classes may be up to the discretion of AZ Dog Sports. Due to the nature of these classes we are often working dogs and owners in close quarters so dogs must be comfortable with that. Dogs enrolled in these classes MUST not be reactive towards people or dogs. If in the opinion of AZ Dog Sports a dog is enrolled and deemed not suitable for these classes the dog will be re-enrolled in a suitable class.

    Scentwork 1 w/Mary in Peoria

    Pre-Requisite: Your dog must have good basic obedience skill, especially walking nicely on leash and stay.The activity and sport of scentwork is designed to develop your dogs’ natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise. It’s a great way for your dog to have fun, build confidence and burn lots of mental and physical energy. Open to all breeds, it is a great class for dogs of any age. They will have an opportunity to build confidence in new environments and work around obstacles without the stress of interaction with other dogs.

    Get dogs CGC qualified in this class. Therapy Dog class. Class will take place on site at AZ Dog Sports. working on our people skills, learning how to do READ visits with those interested in children’s programs, we will continue to work with wheel chairs, walkers, introduce loud noises. We will go over ideas of how you can make your visits more engaging ,meaningful and fun. I will also go over briefly the Navigator Buddies program at Sky Harbor and help you with those requirements

    Have you been wanting to do more tricks with your dog, build a bond or even get better obedience? Then this clicker and shaping class is for you. In this class we will break down each skill into small steps and let your dog use their brain to expand their capabilities. Dog must have basic obedience to join this class.

    This class is for dogs who have some basic tricks down already but are ready to move it up to the next level. You and your pup will use various props and equipment to learn fun, flashy tricks to show off to your friends and family.

    Rally for Fun w/Mary in Peoria

    February 2, 2023 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am

    Pre-Requisite: Your dog must have good basic obedience skill, especially walking nicely on leash and stay.

    You and your dog navigate a course, side-by-side, as you steer him through a course of 10-20 different signs. Each of these signs provides instructions regarding the next skill that is to be performed. The dog and handler move continuously throughout the course with the dog under control at the handler’s left side.

    Puppy Agility w/ Don

    Pre-Requisite:  Your puppy must have had at least their second round of Distemper/Parvo to enroll in this class.  Proof of vaccinations required.

    In this class, your puppy will burn off energy by learning foundation agility and running a small obstacle course. This class is designed for dogs younger than a year. 

    Needed for first class: Buckle collar and/or harness, really great treats ( you can bring chicken or leftover steak), bowl for water (water provided), your enthusiasm, your dog.

    Gentle leaders and prong collars can not be used in this class for safety reasons. Your dog may wear them coming in and out of class but not during.

    Canceled Urban Canine w/Lynn

    Requirements:

     

    Dog must already have a CGC certificate or title on record with AKC.  Dog/Handler teams may participate if they do not have their CGC and are at the Obed 2 level.  They just cannot receive the title. 

     

    Dog must have an AKC number of one of 3 types:

    AKC registration number

    PAL number

    AKC Canine Partners number

     AKC Urban CGC requires that the dog demonstrates CGC types kills in an Urban (City) setting.

     Skills include:

    How the dog reacts to various distractions in an Urban(City) setting such as stairs, elevators, entering and exiting buildings, cars,crossing streets, various movements and noises in an outdoor setting.  These setting may be an outdoor park,shopping center, office building or other enclosed space.

     The course will include 4 sessions with the 4thsession being the actual test/certification. The dog will be evaluated at each session in order to advance toward the final test. 

     Owners will be given the 10 items of the test at the first session so they know what to expect.

    Pre-Requisite: Your dog must have completed Obedience 1 to enroll in this class. Must bring a 15 - 20 foot long line. Do you want a strong recall when your dog is off leash? Do you want to go hiking or go to the Park and not worry "will my dog come back when called"? Then this class is for you.

    Enrollment in Level 2 classes may be up to the discretion of AZ Dog Sports. Due to the nature of these classes we are often working dogs and owners in close quarters so dogs must be comfortable with that.     This class is great for herding breeds and ball crazed dogs. Activities include large fitness balls and learning to herd them to specific locations, Treibball, Drive ball in German, is herding with different size fitness balls. Good for any size dog or personality. Even shy dogs can build confidence with this class.

    Fun Fit Dog Training w/Linda

    Fun Fit Class - equipment needed martingale collar, no prongs - dog needs forward momentum.

    Active class with obedience reinforced positively. 

    This class combines a fun mix of obedience, balance, and agility - strengthening the dogs focus on their handlers as they work together thru the tasks on the floor.  This class will challenge the team and the dog mentally and physically, all while having fun.

    Pre-requisites :

    Dogs must be 6 months and older, well mannered, completion of  Obed 1, .[ Please no reactive dogs.]

    Teams work one at a time on the floor . Dogs should have crate training or a good stay in place by handler. Trainer approves all dogs for this level .

    Rally Intermediate must have between 12 to 17 signs (Start and Finished not included) with a minimum of three and a maximum of seven stationary signs. Intermediate courses will have a minimum of three Advanced level signs.

    We will be teaching dogs to use their nose for tracking, trailing, ground and air scenting and how to communicate where. This is an introductory class but pre-requisite of Obedience 1 is required. Dog must be comfortable in a crate. Use of a longline is highly encouraged, either 15 or 20 feet. Different odors and situations may include searching for articles, people, animals and just fun things like toys/treats.

    All participants MUST have a “TRAINING” or “SERVICE DOG” (if appropriate) patch for their collar, vest or leash. Due to the nature of the airport all clients wishing to participate in the Sky Harbor Airport classes MUST have passed a CGC or be in level 2/3classes unless they are currently enrolled in the Outdoor Adventure classes and have been given permission by the trainer to attend. Dogs must have loose leash walking skills at a minimum.

     AKC Urban CGC requires that the dog demonstrates CGC types kills in an Urban (City) setting.

     Skills include:

    How the dog reacts to various distractions in an Urban(City) setting such as stairs, elevators, entering and exiting buildings, cars,crossing streets, various movements and noises in an outdoor setting.  These setting may be an outdoor park,shopping center, office building or other enclosed space.

     The course will include 4 sessions with the 4thsession being the actual test/certification. The dog will be evaluated at each session in order to advance toward the final test. 

     Owners will be given the 10 items of the test at the first session so they know what to expect.

    Agility Novice w/ Jaz

    Pre-Requisite: Your dog has completed at least 6 weeks of beginner agility and is able to work off leash.

    Dogs/Handler teams are working off leash and taking all obstacles. Must be able to do 6 weaves with half gates. This class includes drills and handling skills. The emphasis is on the handlers execution of a variety of courses.

    Gentle leaders and prong collars can not be used in this class for safety reasons. Your dog may wear them coming in and out of class but not during.

    Pre-Requisite: Your dog must have good basic obedience skill, especially walking nicely on leash and stay.

    The activity and sport of scentwork is designed to develop your dogs’ natural scenting abilities by using their desire to hunt and their love of toys, food and exercise.  It’s a great way for your dog to have fun, build confidence and burn lots of mental and physical energy.  Open to all breeds, it is a great class for dogs of any age.  They will have an opportunity to build confidence in new environments and work around obstacles without the stress of interaction with other dogs.

    Pre-Requisite: Your dog must have completed Scentwork 1 to enroll in this class.

    Intermediate scentwork skills like scent discrimination, competition practice, more difficult scentwork practice.

    Class will be held outdoors on grass at a private residence. Address will be provided after registering.

    Pre-Requisite: Your dog must be able to perform a set of 6 or 12 weave independently to enroll in this class.

    Dog/Handler teams are working off leash and taking all obstacles.   This class includes drills and handling skills.   The emphasis is on the handlers execution of a variety of courses. Developing distance plus speed as well as working on handler and obstacle focus.

    Gentle leaders and prong collars can not be used in this class for safety reasons. Your dog may wear them coming in and out of class but not during.
