TAKE FIDO VACATIONING
If you have always felt like you wished you could bring your dog along on vacation with the family or even by yourself, there has never been a better time to do that! The options are limitless, providing you plan accordingly.
DOG VACATION SPOTS
Many upscale hotel chains and moderately priced ones alike, now welcome your pet. Sometimes weight limits apply, so always check the policies. Kimpton, Red Lion, La Quinta, Best Western, Comfort Inn, select Hiltons, Marriott’s, and Westin hotels all are pet friendly. Some will require a pet deposit and may ask you to provide sheets or covers for bedding. You have to let them know before you arrive if you are traveling with your pet. VBRO also provide many pet friendly homes. Well trained pets are always welcome!
If your dog is well socialized and used to riding in the car, generally a good quality seat-belt or a nice cozy crate with his favorite bedding is a great safe place to ride. You need to make yourself aware of all rules pertinent to where you are traveling, including not leaving your pet unattended in the car or a hotel because of safety and potential barking. Fortunately, most pet friendly hotels or rentals have a working relationship with doggie daycare or pet sitters. If you treat the lodging as though you were at home, pottying your dog in selected areas only, they will be most grateful.
Taking your dog on multiple walks or hikes per day is a great way for you both to exercise on vacation. Many beaches allow dogs in the morning and evenings – and some are just for dogs. Lots of beaches in California, Oregon, and Washington state welcome furry friends. Colorado and other places that encourage outdoor activities in summer are ideal destinations with your pet. Hiking, biking, swimming, and boating can all be done with your canine companion. Always remember to take proper safety precautions for your pups.
DOG TRAINING VACATIONS
Getting away from the everyday same routine with your dog is a great training tool! You can even choose to take your dog on a dog training vacation! Plan ahead and look for dog gyms or dog facilities where you will be traveling and take a class! Or see if there is a place that offers dog-play time or dog-play classes. It can really pay off for both you and your canine companion!
Dogs know they are on vacation too and they can be a great source of fun and companionship while you enjoy your stress-free time away. A new environment that is safe and friendly is always a welcome change to the drudgery of the same old walk or back yard. It is much better than missing you the whole time while at a boarding facility.
Remember to have all tags and licenses up to date before embarking. Make sure your pup is provided bottled water and his/her regular food to avoid any stomach upsets. Fun for you and your canine companion is what it is all about!
If you are the type of person that wants to always include your dog, then consider taking your pet along this year!
